EPISODE 30: Board Game Trivia

A board game is a tabletop game that involves counters or pieces moved or placed on a pre-marked surface or "board", according to a set of rules. Some games are based on pure strategy, but many contain an element of chance; and some are purely chance, with no element of skill. Games usually have a goal that a player aims to achieve. Early board games represented a battle between two armies, and most modern board games are still based on defeating opponents in terms of counters, winning position, or accrual of points. There are many varieties of board games. Their representation of real-life situations can range from having no inherent theme, like checkers, to having a specific theme and narrative, like Cluedo. Rules can range from the very simple, like Tic-tac-toe, to those describing a game universe in great detail, like Dungeons & Dragons – although most of the latter are role-playing games where the board is secondary to the game, serving to help visualize the game scenario. The time required to learn to play or master a game varies greatly from game to game, but is not necessarily correlated with the number or complexity of rules; games like chess or Go possess relatively simple rules ets, but have great strategic depth.

This quiz is brought to you by Road TRIpVIA. The YouTube based trivia game that you can play while driving in your car. You have about 7 seconds after the question is read to answer it. The question is read out loud first (before it shows up on the screen) so that the driver of the vehicle has the same opportunity to shout out the answer as the passengers (who are able to watch the screen). The quizzes are usually 20 questions each and you keep track of the score. It's a great game to play with a car full of friends, or to just play by yourself while driving. I find it's especially great to help keep you awake on the long hauls.

Have you ever played 20 questions or Among Us? Have you maybe dabbled in the delights of One Night Ultimate Werewolf or even the Spiel Des Jahres Winning Board Game Just One. Well you are in for a board game cross over delight. It is like they took your two favourite chocolates and mashed them together.

In Insider, one player takes on the role of the master who secretly reveals a word from the psychedellic deck of cards which they commit to memory. One player is randomly chosen as the Insider and also knows the secret word. No one at the table other than the Insider knows that they are the Insider!

The game begins with the flip of the sand timer as players race to ask the master a range of YES or NO questions in an attempt to guess the mystery word. Meanwhile, the insider knows the word and is planting seeds to help the group guess the word without being caught out as the inisder.

If the group cannot guess the word before the time runs out then the Insider has failed and loses the game... along with all of the other players. If a player guesses the word, then the other players vote to see if the guessing player is the insider or not. If it isn't then the players vote on which member in the group is the insider. If they pick correctly the insider loses. If not, the group wins... except the insider who sits looking slightly embarassed.

For fans of word games and social deduction games like The Resistance and Coup, Insider is a pocket sized game that is sure to delight all. It is a great game to take on holidays or to get out to play during a party.
