Welcome to Part ONE of my Mutant Year Zero Gameplay Walkthrough series! Being a fan of games like X-COM, I was very excited to get my hands on this one. The fact that I died in the second encounter has actually peaked my interest in this one. I do love a game that punishes you for your mistakes. Mutant Year Zero is available on Xbox Game pass with the use of a subscription; it is also available on PlayStation 4 and PC. Before you jump into the game we wanted to give you a quick list of tips and tricks that might come in handy when playing the game:

1) Take it slow: When you come to a new map, take your time to walk around and scope out the terrain and number of enemies you’ll face. The key to player Road to Eden is planning, so take it slow, explore, and think ahead.
2) Quiet is best: Turning off your flashlight will allow you to sneak around without being discovered. This lets you set up ambushes against isolated enemies, hopefully without alerting everyone else in the area. Silent weapons are your friends in the early stages of the game. Use them as much as possible!
3) No one dies in the wimp zone: Always remember to take cover during combat so you’re protected against enemies. Anyone not behind cover is easy pickings for the Zone Ghouls and other creatures.
4) Return to the Ark often: The Ark is your home in the Zone. Here you can upgrade your equipment, buy new gear and unlock team skills. It’s a good idea to often travel back to the Ark to see what’s available to you. It might make the difference between life and death in your next combat encounter.
5) Check every corner: As you travel through the Zone you should check every nook and cranny for hidden scrap, weapon parts, new equipment and other goodies. You never know what you might find!

• CONTROL A TEAM OF MUTANTS: A duck with an attitude problem and a boar with anger issues; these aren’t your typical heroes. Get to know Dux, Bormin, Selma, and many other characters each with their own unique personality and deranged perspective on the world and their situation.

• MASTER THE STEALTHY APPROACH: Sneak through shadows to avoid conflict or to catch enemies unaware. Real-time stealth allows you full control of approach: sneak into an enemy camp, position the team of Mutants to your advantage, and gain the element of surprise.

• UNLOCK MUTATIONS: Unlock new mutations and abilities for your Mutants, such as Selma’s Stoneskin, Bormin’s Charge, and Dux‘ uncanny ability to sneak into a camp full of enemies unnoticed, despite being a 4-foot tall walking, talking duck with a crossbow.

• DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENTS: Use the environment to your advantage. Stay out of floodlights, hide from line of sight, or just blast down fully destructible walls and buildings and wreak utter havoc.

• LOOT, LOOT EVERYWHERE: From makeshift slingshots to high-powered rifles and top hats to police vests, make sure you equip your Mutants for the dangers ahead. Nothing says post-human quite like a mutated boar in spiked metal armor charging at you with a blunderbuss in his hands.
