Around two decades ago, just as Sega was exiting the console market following the Dreamcast's failure, Sony and Nintendo got another major competitor in the form of Microsoft and Xbox. And though Xbox has, of course, seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years (as others have), the brand has persevered and strengthened. It goes without saying that the original Xbox, which came out twenty years ago in November 2001, had a huge role to play in that, laying down a foundation upon which Microsoft would continue to build with all future consoles.

And a lot of that is down to the library- which had more than a few killer releases that are considered to be among the best games of that era. As Xbox celebrates its 20th anniversary, here, we'll be talking about our twenty favourite games in the original Xbox's library.

This game is running on the XDuke port of Duke Nukem 3D by A600.

Overall a very poor Build engine game. No item management or exploration, only 2 weapons (one of which is practically useless compared to the other), and nothing to the gunplay besides holding down the trigger and watching the gib sprites.

Zombie FPS games weren't really a big FPS sub-genre until Left 4 Dead, which was released a couple of months after Zombie Crisis. Before that you had Ocean's terrific but obscure Last Rites, the They Hunger mod for Half-Life, and Land of the Dead. Considering how cheap all of those would've been to get in 2008, there wasn't much reason to play Zombie Crisis unless you were trying out the homebrew PSP or Xbox ports (which afaik are really just separate ports of Duke Nukem 3D running the game as a TC).

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse is a third-person action video game developed by Wideload Games and published by Aspyr Media. It was released on October 18, 2005 for the Xbox video game console, and was released for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X in November that same year. The game was released on February 10, 2006 in Europe.The game was made available on Steam on May 17, 2007, but was later removed. It became available on Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace as an Xbox Originals on May 19, 2008 but was removed late 2012 due to technical issues.

The game was a moderate success garnering favorable reviews and sales for the Xbox version. A sequel was planned, but since Wideload's closing in 2014, it has been since declared canceled.

About Land of the Dead:

The game is a prequel to the Land of the Dead film, taking place during the initial outbreak of the zombie epidemic. Players take on the role of a farmer named Jack, who, one day, finds his farm besieged by the undead. After finding the other nearby farms desolate, he makes his way to the city, hoping to find help, but instead finding the city in ruins, overrun by the undead. Jack later learns about the existence of a safe-haven located within the city, and makes it his priority to reach it.

Gameplay:
Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green utilizes traditional first-person shooter gameplay. Players can use a variety of either melee weapons or firearms to fight through the zombie hordes. Some weapons are capable of dismembering the zombies, whilst other weapons are not. The zombies' jaws, heads, arms, forearms, and legs can be shot or chopped off by the player. This can very effectively save the player so as to make an escape. The zombies themselves appear in many varieties (regular, ones armed with a melee weapon, crawlers, puking ones, screamers that summon other zombies, and poisonous, exploding ones) and each takes a different amount of hits to kill, which varies upon the difficulty setting of the game. The player cannot become a zombie, but it is stated that people who die for any reason become zombies, like in the movie.

The multiplayer component of the game consists of many online game types. These consist of deathmatch, team deathmatch, and "Capture the Flag" modes. There is also an "Invasion" (co-op survival) mode, in which players are trapped in a small map where they must survive for a chosen amount of time. In this mode, the weapons and ammunition regenerate in the same spots each time, allowing the players to dodge the burden of ammunition shortages. Players can pick up melee weapons from recently killed melee weapon wielding zombies as well. In some variants of Invasion maps, players who die or are bitten by zombies become zombies themselves, and try to kill their former teammates.
