1. Captured on real hardware via RGB SCART and Framemeister.

2. Most of these are still affordable even in todays retro market.

3. I tried to take focus off anything that would be considered "normal".

4. To this day I still can't believe how few Model 3 games were actually ported to the DC.

5. There are even more beyond this list. There are at least a dozen more games on the DC that have racing elements.

6. Couple of corrections and clarifications. Star Wars Episode I Racer is a two player game, not four. In the Stunt GP section, Halifax was the distributer, not the developer of the game. They shared duties with Eon Digital Entertainment. Team 17 actually developed Stunt GP. I completely had it backwards.

The Dreamcast is the last console released by Sega, marking the end of the company’s 18 years in the console market.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer, known as Shutokō Battle (首都高バトル) in Japan and Tokyo Highway Challenge in Europe, is a racing video game for the Sega Dreamcast. Released in 1999 as one of the console's launch titles, the game was one of the first mission-based racing games. The gameplay involves the player challenging other drivers on the Shuto Expressway in order to gain money to modify and enhance his or her car. The game features a wide variety of Japanese cars and tuning parts to purchase as the player progresses through rivals.

When released in Japan, Shutokō Battle was one of the best selling Dreamcast titles at this time. The game is based on illegal highway racing in Tokyo's Wangan highway with custom tuned cars. A such phenomenon is growing popular in Japan since the 90's with its dedicated manga (Shutokō Battle's biggest inspiration being Wangan Midnight), anime series and video games (C1 Circuit, Wangan Trial, Naniwa Wangan Battle).

This is a video compilation of some Sega Dreamcast games running on 1080p hd in true widescreen (when possible).
The emulator is NullDC 1.0.4 played with an xbox360 controller, recorded with FRAPS.
Games on this video: MSR Metropolis Street racer, Toy commander, Space Channel 5.
With this Emulator it is possible to recreate true 16:9 visuals thanks to its option that enables the "extra geometry" required to fill the borders of the screen. Some games works great with this option but they will show some graphical glitches on the right and left borders of the screen. That's not an emulator glitch, it is really the way DC calculated the non-visible graphic working in standard 4:3 screen ratio.
Space Channel 5 only works in 4:3.

Finally note that some graphical problems are present here and there, that's beacuse the emulator is still in development but allready works really great ihmo.
Without the recording software enabled everything runs without any frame drop or sound clipping.

For many, the Sega Dreamcast remains the greatest console of all time. Sega was at their creative peak with a never ending stream of awesome new games, the console ushered in online gaming for many, and the graphical capabilities were a massive leap above anything available at the time.

In addition to true 480p graphics, the Dreamcast also raised the bar in terms of frame rate, with a ton of games featuring smooth, 60 frames per second, visuals. On today’s episode of 5 games, we are going to look at 5 Dreamcast racing games, reaching the 60 FPS promised land.

Emulation has made it possible for me to experience lots of systems I never got the chance to see back in the day. Of all the ones I've tried the Sega Dreamcast stands out, I love this machine. I also like a good racing game so I thought I'd take a look what the DC had to offer. There's quite a few racers in it's library, here's five I played and liked, they look class with the res boosted. I'm using the excellent Redream emulator, resolution boosted to 2k and a few enhanchments like texture filtering and mip mapping etc....Grab Redream here redream.io/
