I have always loved Pokemon, ever since I got Pokemon Red & Blue for christmas this has been a franchise & a world that I love to explore but for the very first time this unofficial Pokemon VR game will let me explore the Kanto region for real!!! Pokemon VR is a fully fleshed out online Pokemon RPG that you can play FOR FREE on either your Oculus Quest / Oculus Quest 2 or your PC VR headset (Oculus Rift or HTC Vive currently working but experimental) and it is pretty awesome for a product that is completely free. Gotta catch em all? Let's catch some of them and see if this Pokemon VR game is worth your time!

In this Pokemon VR gameplay / Pokemon VR Oculus Quest 2 gameplay video I take my first steps into the world of Pokemon VR and see how this unofficial game stacks up against the fully fledged releases from Nintendo. My first impressions of Pokemon VR are mostly positive, with a few big caveats, it's a little rough around the edges (battles especially suffer from a lack of clarity around whether you've won, how much XP you've earned and generally whether the battle is still taking place) but we're talking about a fan created project that is entirely free to play here. The fact that you can jump into a fully realised, 3D version of the Kanto region & tackle all the gyms whilst catching, training, battling & trading Pokemon is honestly a very impressive thing indeed. I'm unsure just how deep the rabbit hole goes but the whole Kanto region is definitely here complete with gym battles & badges to collect, the routes & locations have all been lovingly recreated and the core Pokemon VR gameplay feels very similiar to that of the official entires into Nintendo's Pokemon franchise.

If you're looking for an online RPG with tonnes of monsters to collect then Pokemon VR / this VR Pokemon game deserves your time, even if it's just to check it out for a few minutes, chances are you'll be hooked & hunting for shiny Pokemon in no time.

A new Pokemon VR game for the Quest 2 has emerged, after the death of "Pokemon VR" which was shut down to form the basis of Revomon, we now have PokeQuest VR, an incredibly faithful Pokemon RPG right down to the sprite style pixel animations and battle screens. If you grew up playing the handheld Pokemon adventures then this new Quest 2 experience will feel immediately familiar to you, starting in Pallet Town you collect your first Pokemon from Professor Oak and then embark into the world to earn gym badges, collect & train Pokemon and ultimately become the very best (like no one ever was). PokeQuest VR is an online experience so you will also share the world with other trainers, engage in battle with them (if you choose to) and trade creatures, however during my playtime today I didn't bump into any other players so had free reign to explore & level up.

As someone born in 1987 who lived through the initial waves of Pokemon-mania PokeQuest VR feels like a nostalgic VR time capsule, seeing the characters and Pokemon in all their pixelated glory along with faithful recreations of the routes, towns and areas seen in the original titles filled me with joy. However the game is still in a very early development stage and I hope as time moves on they add more VR centric interactions like throwing a Pokeball or selecting regularly used items from a belt/physical backpack. In it's current state PokeQuest VR is a solid Pokemon VR game if you want to play seated and don't mind a more passive experience, one that feels like you've truly stepped into the Gameboy games from years past.

A while back I played an in development VR game for the Oculus Quest called POKEMON VR! ( youtube.com/watch?v=aeNZMdWHSxQ )
It was AWESOME, but not long after, the DEVS we're shut down (Thanks Nintendo) But they're back with their own version, called REVOMON. With an entire cast of their own "Pokemon" to catch, collect, train & battle.
Not only that, a big part of REVOMON is that the game is tied to Crypto & NFT's so you can actually MINT & own your very own REVOMON as an NFT! (This is something I want to cover specifically in another video, so keep your eyes peeled for that!)

Pokémon Go (stylized Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices.
